Colophon

How to use this book

This is the governing reference for anything carrying the St. Christopher name — a game recap, a recruiting one-pager, a jersey, an Instagram graphic, or a prompt handed to an AI assistant.

What changed in v2.0

The identity, colour and typography sections were rebuilt against the two supplied marks. Colour values are now sampled directly from the artwork rather than proposed, and Section 05 documents a two-mark architecture instead of a single lockup. Sections 01–04 and 09–12 are substantially unchanged.

Two source properties, one brand

stchristopheracademy.com is the institution: admissions, academics, coaching, the founder's record. stchristopherbasketball.com is the program of record: rosters, verified stats, film, schedule, newsroom. One brand, two jobs, two marks.

Status marks

Verified drawn from the live sites or measured from supplied artwork. Proposed established here to close a gap; needs one sign-off. Decision a live conflict that must be resolved before v2.1.

Compiled from stchristopheracademy.com, stchristopherbasketball.com, and the supplied files SCA-LOGO-EMBLEM-StChristopher.png and sca-logo.png. September 2026.

01

Section One

Position

A college-preparatory basketball academy that treats every season as a recruiting file.

The one-sentence position

St. Christopher Academy is a college-preparatory basketball academy in Wake Forest, North Carolina, where a nationally scheduled program, an accredited NCAA-approved academic path and courtside-verified statistics combine into a single, defensible case for each athlete's next level.

Positioning statement Proposed

For families of serious middle- and high-school basketball players who need more than a season, St. Christopher Academy is the college-preparatory academy that builds the athlete and the file at the same time — because unlike programs that log results after the fact, every Sentinels stat is captured live courtside and published as part of a permanent recruiting résumé.

Approved brand lines Verified

The four pillars

I

Skill

Elite training under a coach with a documented development record. The work is technical, repeatable and measured.

II

Mind

An accredited, NCAA-approved academic path built for athletes, with structured support for the jump to college coursework.

III

Character

Conduct is part of the record. How an athlete carries a bad night belongs in the file alongside the good ones.

IV

Proof

Nothing is claimed that cannot be shown. Stats, film and schedule are published, timestamped and checkable.

Audiences, in priority order

Section Two

Provenance

Credentials are the brand's collateral. State them plainly; never inflate them.

St. Christopher Academy was founded by Coach Brian L. Clifton. The program's authority rests on a verifiable record, and every claim below appears on the academy's own site. Nothing beyond this list may be asserted without a document behind it.

The founder's record Verified

  • Named among Bleacher Report's 50 Most Influential People in College Basketball History.
  • Holds a USA Basketball Gold Coach License.
  • Development history with players including John Wall, the No. 1 overall NBA draft pick, and J.T. Terrell (Wake Forest / USC).

Institutional partners Verified

  • Acellus Academy — a fully accredited, NCAA-approved academic program. CEEB Code 260071.
  • Life Time — training access including strength and conditioning, recovery and performance facilities.
  • Dr. Kim Brodie — Learning and Curriculum Development Specialist, bridging high-school work to college demands.

How to state credentials

Do

  • Attribute: "named by Bleacher Report," not "widely regarded."
  • Say "coached" or "worked with" about alumni players — describe the actual relationship.
  • Cite CEEB 260071 when academic legitimacy is the question.

Don't

  • Imply a current NBA affiliation or endorsement.
  • Use a professional player's likeness to sell enrollment.
  • Stack superlatives — one credential, stated once, outperforms three adjectives.

The 2025–26 record, stated as we state it Verified

8–17Record
25Games played
21Opponents faced
7Varsity athletes

A losing record is published at the same size as a winning one. Seven varsity athletes against a twenty-one-opponent national schedule is the context, and context is offered without apology or excuse. This is the single most important habit in the brand: the number goes first, the explanation goes second, and the explanation never edits the number.

03

Section Three

Voice

We write like a beat reporter who happens to love the team — accurate first, warm second, never promotional.

Six voice principles

1. Evidence before adjective

Lead with what happened and what it measured. If a sentence survives without its adjectives, delete them. "Twenty points on 6-of-11 shooting" beats "a dominant performance."

2. Losses get the same voice as wins

Report the bad night with identical structure and equal detail. A program that only narrates its wins is a marketing account, and coaches read it that way.

3. Plain over polished

Short sentences. Concrete nouns. Ordinary verbs. No sports-marketing vocabulary, no motivational-poster cadence, no exclamation marks.

4. The athlete is a person, not an asset

Full name on first mention, then surname. Never reduce a minor to a ranking, a stat line, or a highlight. Never publish a body-composition figure.

5. Every claim has a place it can be checked

If we say it, we link it: box score, roster page, schedule, film. A claim with nowhere to land does not ship.

6. Institution and program share a spine

The academy voice is steadier and more formal; the program voice is faster and more granular. Same values, different tempo — never two different companies.

Register by context

ContextRegisterRule

Lexicon

Words we use

  • Sentinels — the team, always plural, always capitalised
  • student-athlete — hyphenated, in academy contexts
  • verified — only when the number was logged courtside
  • recruiting résumé, living file, the next level
  • logged, posted, recorded — for stats
  • the staff — our default first-person plural in recaps

Words we don't

  • elite as a self-description — let the record say it
  • dominant, explosive, unstoppable, generational
  • family as a substitute for structure
  • guaranteed, we place, we get you seen — never
  • kids in external copy — use athletes or students
  • blessed, grind, no days off — borrowed cadence

The same night, three ways

St. Christopher opened on a 13–0 run and led wire to wire, 68–49, over Living Waters at the Mt. Zion Tourney.

Recap opening. Result, margin, opponent, event — one sentence, no adjectives.

W 68–49 at Living Waters. Okauru 20 pts / 6 reb, Jenkins 15 on 5-of-11 from three.

Social caption. Same facts, compressed. No emoji strings, no all-caps.

Twenty-seven turnovers told the story of a young team still finding its rhythm.

A loss, in the brand's own voice. Honest, specific, forward-looking — and published.

Mechanics

  • Name: "St. Christopher Academy" on first mention; "St. Christopher" or "the academy" after. Never "St. Chris" in external copy. Never "Saint" spelled out.
  • Monogram in text: the mark is the StC monogram — capital S, lowercase t, capital C. Never written "SCA" or "STC" when referring to the artwork.
  • Team: "the Sentinels" — plural verb. "Sentinels basketball," lowercase b.
  • Scores: en dash, winner first: 68–49. Away games take "at."
  • Stats: "6-of-11," "5-of-11 from three," "20 points." Per-game averages carry one decimal: 17.4 PPG.
  • Class year: "Class of 2029" in prose; c2029 in filenames.
  • Heights: 6'8" with straight foot and inch marks, consistently.
  • Dates: "Nov 3, 2026" in copy; 20261103 in filenames. Seasons as 2026–27.
  • Sentence case for headlines and buttons. Display type set in Graduate is inherently capitalised — that is a typeface, not permission for all-caps body text.
04

Section Four

The Verified Standard

This is the differentiator. Protect it more carefully than the logo.

Every stat on Sentinels properties is logged live courtside by staff. That single operating habit is what converts a season into a recruiting résumé a college coach can trust — and it is the one asset a competitor cannot copy by hiring a designer.

Rules of the standard

  • The word verified is reserved. It may only describe a figure captured live by Sentinels staff. Imported or third-party numbers are labelled imported and carry their source.
  • A corrected stat is corrected publicly, with a dated note. Silent edits destroy the standard permanently.
  • Published averages state the sample: 17.4 PPG over 25 games, not 17.4 PPG alone.
  • Projections, ceilings and comparisons are never presented in stat typography. If it isn't measured, it doesn't get the numerals.
  • Losses, low-minute games and off nights stay in the record. Selective publication is falsification.
  • Before a season starts, empty state reads "Stats begin when games do." Never zeroes, never blanks.

The stat line format

Order is fixed so a coach can scan a hundred of these: points → efficiency → rebounds → assists → steals/blocks → turnovers → minutes. Efficiency always accompanies volume. Turnovers are never omitted to flatter.

Identity

Two marks. One is the school. One is the team. Confusing them is the most common brand error available to us.

The StC Monogram

Interlocking collegiate S t C. The institutional mark. Academy Blue keyline, white counters.

The Sentinel badge

Mark architecture — which one, when

MarkOwnsApplications
StC Monogram

Athletic / spirit
The team. Competition, spirit, merchandise, fandom. Game-day graphics, uniforms and warmups, court centre, social avatars for program accounts, apparel, film bumpers, team posters, banners.
Wordmark

Typographic name-only setting. Where a mark is already present elsewhere, or where reproduction is too small for either emblem.
Lockups
To be produced
Mark plus wordmark plus descriptor. Vertical for covers and signage; horizontal for banners, footers and email.

The simple rule

Blue is the Academy. Gold is the Sentinels. If the audience is a parent, a registrar or a regulator, lead with the monogram in blue. If the audience is in a gym, lead with the badge in navy and gold. Both marks may appear on one surface, but never adjacent and never at equal size — one leads, one supports at no more than 60 % of the leading mark's height.

Clear space

XXXX
Monogram clear space diagram

X equals the width of the monogram's keyline stroke × 6, measured at the widest point of the C. Applied on all four sides of either mark. Nothing enters it — not type, not a photo edge, not another logo.

Minimum sizes

MarkScreenPrint
StC monogram28 px tall10 mm tall
Sentinel badge, full colour96 px tall32 mm tall
Sentinel badge, simplified48 px tall16 mm tall

The badge's detail collapses below its minimum. Under 96 px, use the simplified crest or the monogram — never a shrunken full-colour badge.

Backgrounds

Chalk — preferred
Navy — approved
Academy Blue — never

The monogram's white counters read as fill, not as holes. On Academy Blue the keyline disappears and the mark becomes an unreadable white shape — this is why the one-colour reverse version is a required deliverable, not a nice-to-have.

Misuse — both marks

Correct

  • Monogram in Academy Blue on chalk, or reversed in white on navy
  • Badge full colour on navy, midnight, or a dark neutral
  • Either mark over the darkest, quietest area of a photo
  • Scaled proportionally from the highest-resolution source

Never

  • Recolour the badge, or separate the sentinel figure from its banner
  • Use the sentinel figure alone as a mascot illustration without approval
  • Stretch, skew, rotate, outline, or add shadow to either mark
  • Set the monogram letters in a substitute collegiate typeface
  • Place the badge on a busy image without a flat scrim
  • Enlarge the supplied PNGs beyond 100 % of native pixel size
  • Lock either mark to a partner mark without a divider rule and written approval

Production status — what exists, what is missing Decision

An honest audit of the two supplied files. Both are raster PNGs with transparent backgrounds; neither is a vector master. Until that is fixed, the identity cannot be embroidered, engraved, cut in vinyl, or printed above roughly A4.

FindingDetailRequired action
No vector masterMonogram 896×895 px PNG; badge 512×512 px PNG.Redraw both as SVG and EPS. This is the highest-priority brand task.
Monogram artefactA stray dark seam where the S and C strokes intersect on the left, plus slightly uneven keyline weight.Repair during the vector redraw. Do not retouch the raster.
Off-centre canvasMonogram artwork sits at uneven margins inside its canvas (201 / 71 / 195 / 101 px).Trim to the bounding box, then rebuild the canvas symmetrically so clear space can be applied mechanically.
Counters are filledInteriors are near-white #F8F8F8, not transparent and not pure white.Produce three fill variants: white, transparent, and single-colour solid.

Open decision — the navy conflict Decision

The basketball site currently publishes theme-color as #1B1B33, an indigo. The Sentinel badge's navy samples to #0B1E33, a colder blue-navy. They are close enough to look like a mistake and far enough apart to be one.

Recommendation: the artwork wins. Adopt #0B1E33 as Sentinel Navy across the system and update the site's theme-color to match. Treat #1B1B33 as legacy, retired at v2.1. Two navies must not coexist past this season.

Blue is the Academy. Gold is the Sentinels.

Academy Blue and Sentinel Gold are both accents, and they do not share a surface as equals. Academic, admissions and institutional material leads with blue. Competition, spirit and merchandise material leads with gold. A single piece may carry a trace of the other — a rule, a link, a stat marker — but never a second full accent.

Ratios and rules

  • 60 / 30 / 8 / 2. Navy or chalk dominates; the opposite carries structure; silver handles secondary text; the leading accent stays near two per cent of a surface.
  • Gold and blue are signals, not fills. Large panels of either are off-brand.
  • No gradients in layout — backgrounds, panels, buttons or type. The badge's internal metallic shading is part of the artwork and is the sole exception.
  • Opponent colours never appear in Sentinels layout chrome, only inside the opponent's own logo.
  • Academy Blue at #38A8D0 fails 4.5:1 on chalk. For text, use Blue Deep. #38A8D0 is for marks, rules and dark-ground type.
07

Section Seven

Typography

Three families, three jobs. The display face answers to the monogram's collegiate letterforms — not to a magazine.

The StC monogram is a block collegiate letterform and the badge wordmark is heavy athletic display. A high-contrast fashion serif would contradict both. The system below is drawn from the marks.

Graduate

Collegiate display. Mastheads, section titles, folio numbers, stat numerals, jersey and banner settings. One weight. Never below 20 px, never in running text, never letterspaced past 2 %. It is the typographic relative of the monogram.

Newsreader

Institutional serif. Decks, pull quotes, admissions letters, transcripts, academy long-form. This is the academy's voice on paper — the side of the brand a parent reads slowly.

Archivo

Workhorse. Body copy, navigation, tables, stat lines, captions, buttons, interface. Weights 400 / 500 / 600 / 700. Always font-variant-numeric: tabular-nums so box-score columns align.

Fallbacks: Copperplate then Georgia for collegiate; Georgia for the serif; system sans for text. Substitute faces are not permitted in produced assets — if a licence is unavailable, set the name in Archivo 700 rather than a collegiate lookalike.

Rules

  • Graduate is a capitalised design. Use it as a display face, never as a way to set body copy or labels in caps.
  • Body measure stays under 70 characters; Newsreader may run to 75. Decks under 45.
  • Left-aligned by default. Centre only cover marks and lockups. Never justify.
  • Numerals in tables and stat lines are tabular. Numerals in running prose are proportional.
  • No italic in Archivo — emphasis is weight 600. Italic belongs to Newsreader.
  • Jersey and uniform numerals follow the athletic supplier's block face, not Graduate. Names on the back set in Archivo 700.
08

Section Eight

Imagery

Photograph the work, not the highlight. Evaluators trust what looks unstaged.

Direction

  • In the action, mid-effort. Defensive slides, a closeout, a rebound in traffic, a huddle. The dunk is the least informative frame in basketball.
  • Available light. Real gym light, honest colour. No heavy grading, no cinematic teal-and-orange, no light leaks or flare.
  • Faces and eyes. Concentration reads as character; celebration reads as marketing.
  • Room to breathe. Leave negative space on the side the athlete is moving toward — also where headlines and the badge live.
  • Academics look like academics. Real coursework on real screens, not stock classrooms.
  • The badge is not a photo filter. Never tile, watermark or ghost either mark across an image. One placement, at clear space, over a flat scrim.

Consent and minors

Every athlete is a minor. A signed media release is required before any image is published, and a family may withdraw consent at any time, which is honoured within one business day across all properties. Never publish an image that reveals a home address, a school schedule, a vehicle plate, or a lone athlete's exact location in real time.

Naming System

One grammar governs every file, folder, slug, token and AI project the academy produces. If you can read the name, you know what the thing is, who it is about, when it was made, and where it goes — without opening it.

  • Player keys are firstname-lastname — matching the live site slugs exactly. Suffixes stay attached: harvey-jenkins-iii.
  • Never rename a published asset. Publish a new version and retire the old one behind a redirect.

Game keys

A game is identified by date, venue letter and opponent slug — in that order, so a folder sorts chronologically on its own.

Opponent slugs are copied verbatim from the site's own /teams/ URLs. Never re-slug an opponent.

Editorial slugs

News URLs stay kebab-case, lowercase, headline-derived, undated in the path, with the site's short unique suffix retained. The date belongs in the article metadata, not the slug.

Applications

Each application below names which mark leads. That is the first decision, before layout, before colour.

Game-day graphic — badge leads

Midnight ground. Sentinel badge top-left at clear space. Opponent logo right, separated by a hairline gold rule. Score in Graduate at the optical centre, winner first. Player line beneath in Archivo tabular. One detail maximum. No emoji, no confetti.

Recruiting one-pager — monogram leads

Above the fold: name, class year, position, height and weight, verified season line, film link, academic status with CEEB 260071, coach contact. Monogram top-left; badge at 60 % in the footer. A coach should decide in eight seconds.

Uniform & apparel — badge leads

Navy and chalk primary kits. Gold for trim, numerals and crest; silver as secondary trim only. Simplified two-colour crest on chest — the gradient badge cannot be embroidered. Monogram on shorts or warmup sleeve. Surnames follow roster spelling exactly, suffixes included.

Letterhead & transcripts — monogram only

Monogram in Academy Blue, top-left, at 22 mm. Newsreader for body. CEEB 260071 and full contact block in the footer. The badge never appears on an academic document — it undermines the registrar's read.

Email signature — monogram leads

Monogram at 44 px, left. Name, role, phone, stchristopheracademy.com. One gold hairline above the contact block. No quotes, no images of quotes, no social icon rows.

Social avatars — split by account

Program accounts use the crest-only badge on navy. Academy and admissions accounts use the monogram on chalk. Never crop the full badge into a circle — the banner clips and the wordmark becomes unreadable.

Presentation deck — either, once

Navy cover with the leading mark and a single Graduate title. Chalk interior. One idea per slide. Section dividers carry the folio number and the gold rule, exactly as in this book.

Schedule table — no mark

Date, venue letter, opponent, result. Win and loss colours at equal weight. Completed and upcoming games share one table — we never hide the played half of a season.

AI Context Protocol

A model that invents a stat is a brand risk, not a productivity tool.

This book has a machine-readable companion, SCA-BRAND-CONTEXT.md. Load it into the project or chat before asking for anything that will carry the academy's name.

Standing instruction

You are writing as St. Christopher Academy / Sentinels Basketball.
Follow SCA-BRAND-CONTEXT.md exactly.

Hard rules:
1. Never invent a statistic, score, date, roster spot or credential.
If a figure is missing, write [VERIFY: description] and continue.
2. Use "verified" only for figures logged courtside by staff.
3. Report losses in the same structure and detail as wins.
4. No hype vocabulary: elite, dominant, explosive, generational, unstoppable.
5. Sentence case. No exclamation marks. No emoji.
6. Athletes are minors — no rankings-as-identity, no body composition,
no real-time location, no placement guarantees.
7. Two marks: StC monogram = academy, Sentinel badge = team.
Name which one leads before describing any layout.
8. Name files with the Section 09 grammar.

Then state the task.

The four context files

  • SCA-BRAND-CONTEXT.md — position, voice, lexicon, marks, naming. The default load.
  • SCA-VOICE-EXAMPLES.md — ten published recaps and captions, wins and losses, as few-shot examples.
  • SCA-STATS-RULES.md — stat-line order, rounding, correction protocol.
  • SCA-ROSTER-{season}.md — current roster with keys, class years, measurables. Regenerated each season, never hand-edited.

Open items for v2.1

  • Vector redraw of both marks, with the derivative set in Section 05.
  • Resolve the navy conflict and update the site theme-color.
  • Produce the wordmark and the vertical and horizontal lockups.
  • Republish the badge under a grammar-compliant filename.

Revision cycle

Reviewed once a season, before the first game. Substantive changes increment the whole number; corrections increment the decimal. The superseded version is archived, never deleted.

Trademark

St. Christopher Academy, Sentinels, the StC monogram and the Sentinel badge are marks of St. Christopher Academy. Use by partners, vendors, media and apparel manufacturers requires written permission and adherence to this book. Opponent and partner marks remain the property of their owners and are reproduced only as supplied.

The one-page test

Before anything ships, four questions. Is the right mark leading? Can a college coach verify every number in it? Would we publish it the same way after a twenty-point loss? Does it sound like the staff, or like an advertisement? If any answer is no, it is not ready.
